A Gift. His Reward!

As a mom of what some call "many" I am constantly reminded that the world does not view children  the way that my husband and I do, as the gifts that the Bible says they are. Whether it be a trip to the grocery store, to get gas, at a local bakery, everywhere we go, we get the "looks" and the comments. If you are a mother of more than 2 children, you know the ones. "Are they all yours?" "Wow, you sure have your hands full." "Are you done yet?" Yes, those comments.

Now, I am typically one to try to get my point across; to explain my beliefs and the truth of the Bible, however as we know, we are in a sticky time. A time when you can't pay people enough to open their minds to anything other than what the world has taught them.

"For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."

If I could say anything to them, and have them hear, it would be that my husband and I are blessed in being able to call ourselves parents. Some think pregnancies come a dime a dozen. In reality, there is a very short window of time when conception can actually occur and even then, the environment and circumstances must be just right. Conception is not that easy! Ask anyone who has ever had trouble conceiving. They will concur, it is a miracle.

A family member remarked when we were on our second pregnancy, that my husband needed to get fixed. Now I would say, "Why? Clearly, nothing is broken."

But Instead of convincing the world, I decided to remind myself that as a mother and one of many, I have been entrusted with a hefty job. In raising my children with fear and admonition of the Lord, I am doing kingdom work. I am allowing and doing His will and because of that, I am a sister of Christ.

"Pointing to His disciples, He said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'"  - Matthew 12:49-50

Sisters in Christ, the Lord needs sharpened arrows in His army. Do not be discouraged. We are justified in Him. The next time you are crushed by the world's paradigm that children are nothing more than expensive burdens, and the next time you are told, "Better you than me."

Just smile and say, I don't know what I did to deserve my gifts but I am so glad God saw fit to give them to me!

  1. Amen! I'm pregnant with my seventh, and after two miscarriages, this baby is reminding me again what a blessing it is to bear children. My hands are full - of very good things.
